Ad Network Market Share

April 1st, 2008

Battelle linked to to it, but otherwise I haven’t seen any other analysis of the fascinating study a company, Attributor, did on Ad Network and Ad server calls.

The company itself tracks down spam copies of posts and articles for their original authors. So through that they crawl a shitload of pages and they can analyze which ad servers and ad networks are on pages.

The ad network part is murky because each impression can be daisy chained and the first impression (one that is on the page) isn’t likely to be the ad network (i.e. have doubleclick ad server which then calls ad code from whatever advertiser or ad network). But still a fascinating exercise. Go check it out.
