Random thought: I wonder if those who use the word ‘strategic’ the most are the one’s who are most focused on short term outcomes?
Bear with me. M&A Bankers pride themselves on ‘strategic advice’ but are paid by the transaction event. Management consultants from McKinsey and elsewhere champion strategic reviews which are often pre-determined short term exercises to trim costs. They are paid on a three month engagement.
It’s like when a used car sales men starts a sentence with “Trust me…”. Or when passive aggressive people begin statements with the exact opposite of their intent: “I’m not criticizing you…”, “I would never do that to you…”
Those who do care about strategic issues, say early stage venture capitalists, barely mention the word. Just saying…
