Google Gets Less-Opaque about Click Fraud

May 9th, 2007

Google seem to be making good progress in finally becoming more transparent about click fraud invalid clicks.

A good summary of there invalid clicks day is here.

Interesting stats, including 40% of what advertisers currently think is invalid is actually a consumer clicking their back button, Google claims.

Google also maintains that invalid clicks are around 8-10% of all clicks and that has been flat since 2004. Sounds about right to me (people often won’t reconcile that but if you think about the size of the search market then vs now, the absolute number of invalid clicks has grown astoundingly).

Google also now have 36 people whose job it is to take care of invalid clicks, which seems a bit low. But at least it’s a start.
