eBaypinions

October 11th, 2005

Brian Smith of Comparison Engines has news of eBay’s reviews beta.

As well as product reviews they are letting users setup guides to particular topics. Which in web 2.0 speak is very Squidoo.

They already have 2003 digital camera reviews and it’s only in beta.

With the transaction flow creating a natural point in time to review products they will no doubt have a critical mass within months.

At the moment the reviews link to the marketplace but not vice versa.

Brian poses the question of whether they will integrate ePinions into their review community. It’s ludicrous they don’t. But even though they share a corporate parent the reality is that the company is huge and that getting a deal done between them would probably take just as long as creating a usable and helpful number of reviews on their own. Sad but true.

eBay is becoming the new Barry Diller of Internet acquisitions, happy to spend and gun shy to integrate.
